Fibromyalgia treatment using Hypnosis

Fibromyalgia is a condition with a range of symptoms that can often be debilitating, frustrating and life limiting. Hypnosis can help to alleviate many of those symptoms and allow you to have a greater life experience. Your condition can be managed in such a way that the typical symptoms of any myalgic condition can be reduced and also the frequency and the extent of the flare ups can be reduced to manageable levels. This process takes time, practise and a readiness to challenge your current experience of your condition.

After over a decade of supporting patients with myalgia and various myalgic conditions, both as a Sheffield hypnotherapist and a support worker I have established a longstanding history of working with fibromyalgia.

Using your skills at managing your condition and my experience of symptom management plus a range of specialist therapeutic tools I can support you to support you to work to make your condition as manageable as possible.

How can hypnosis and hypnotherapy support with myalgic symptoms?

Hypnosis can support you by helping you get better quality sleep. Lack of quality rest impacts on both your physical and mental health. Sleep is essential to grow stamina, confidence and allow any repairs that your body needs to undertake. I can support you to develop a useful sleep regime which can allow the symptoms to reduce.

Hypnotherapy can also help to deal with the lack of energy and all encompassing lethargy that is common with this condition. For some people the difficultly in accepting that they are ill and the reluctance to change their lifestyle despite their Fibromyalgia symptoms clearly being unmanageable can be a potential barrier to their recovery. I can support you to fully adapt to the new situation and with acceptance of your condition, help you learn to feel comfortable with who and how you are, instead of perpetually doing nothing or doing too much; you will start to recover. Hypnosis can help to identify any historic route cause of the condition which may, when addressed, help you to make a much more speedy and complete or near complete recovery.

Many people report that Fibromyalgia follows a very stressful or traumatic period in their lives or follows a deep and lingering period of flu like symptoms, perhaps even glandular fever. This is often indicative of ignoring the signals of being burnt out, overly stressed or ignoring the emotional signals to rest. Hypnosis can help you to get that balance right. Once some patients find that balance they often demonstrate a marked recovery. Hypnosis has been very effective in helping many people who experience Fibromyalgia and is promoted by many of the Fibrolmyalgia support groups.

How can hypnosis help me manage my feelings and my moods to better deal with fibromyalgia?

Hypnotherapy can also help you to manage how you feel better. Hypnosis and the talking therapies I can offer will allow you to develop more confidence, manage any stress or anxiety and develop a more positive approach to your condition. By using a combination of techniques including hypnosis I can support you to be more motivated to manage your condition but also to be more accepting of when you are unable to function at your optimal level. Overtime this sustained approach will allow you to function more effectively, reduce your anxiety, reduce your sense of frustration but equally this approach may impact on your actual symptoms such that they may reduce to a level that they are perfectly manageable.

A common issue for many people who experience Fibromyalgia is that they are not always skilled at recognising their own needs. For some who are able to recognise them they still neglect them by putting others first. As part of the support I offer I will help you to develop effective assertiveness skills, such that you will develop the confidence and calmness to assert yourself without feeling any guilt nor any anger. By emplying this skill you will find that stress levels, along with your heart rate will fall, any underlying anxiety will be reduces and the physical pressures that you have felt under will also decline to much more manageable and sustainable levels

Will you train me in self hypnosis so that I can manage my condition independently?

As part of your treatment you can learn self hypnosis to help manage any pain and any other symptoms. By learning visualisation techniques you will be able to encourage better healing, experience the symptoms in a much more positive and useful way and over time you will learn the skills to make your symptoms manageable.
